Holograph journal of an account of the writer's travels between 1876 and 1879. The first volume records an account of her travels in Europe and Egypt from 1876 Nov 9 to 1877 Jan 19. She describes her seasickness during the initial journey from New York to Liverpool; visits Madame Tussaud's in London and declares the waxworks very amusing; visits the courts of Chancery "merely out of the curiosity for of course they were not very interesting"; goes to the dentist in Paris; finds the weather at Nice disagreeable, visits the skating rink, and meets "a very nice-looking Bolton fellow". In her last journal entry of the volume, she arrives at Cairo, Egypt, where she describes her fellow travelers, their dress, and the hotel. This entry is followed by a poem titled "The Daughter of Heth" and labeled "Nice, Dec. 24, 1876." The second volume records further travels in Europe from 1877 Sep 4 to 1878 Dec 31, including Austria and Dresden. The last entry in the volume, from Massachusetts, summarizes her journey back to the United States. Also at the end of the second volume are a list of books read in 1879 with their dates begun and finished, and which includes five works by Nathaniel Hawthorne; a list of "Pieces of Sewing, Fancy-work, &c accomplished in the year 1879," which consists primarily of sheets, bolster cases, and pillow cases; and a list of correspondents, all women with addresses in the United States, for the year 1879. Apparently vols. 1 and 4 of a series.
